When an how can I terminate my rental contract? (Germany)
If you have a Long Term contract, you can terminate your apartment with three months' notice to September 30 of the second year.
E.g. your contract is concluded for the period from 01.10.2022 until 30.09.2025. In this case you can send a termination until 30.06.2024, to terminate your contract to 30.09.2024.

You can find a template for your termination here. Terminations by e-mail or telephone are not legally valid.
In case you have a Full Year Stay Flex contract, you can termiante your contract atfer 6 month to the end of the semester. This means if you have a contract from 01.10.2022 until 30.09.2023, you can terminate your contract with a three month notice period to 31.03.2023.
If you have concluded a short contract, we also offer you the option of terminating your rental contract with four weeks' notice to the end of the month if you have found a suitable new tenant. Further information on termination by new tenant can be found here.

Please note that the contract for your parking space must be terminated separately.
(Exception: If you have rented an apartment in Aachen, Munich or Freiburg Mitte, your parking space is automatically terminated with your apartment rental contract. In this case, you do not have to send a separate termination letter).
